Spelling S-U-C-C-E-S-S for your children

But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6: 9-10)
Competition seems to be the driving force of our society; as a result success is often defined by our ability to “beat” our opponent.
Good schools, good grades, satisfying careers, all of these directly affect our success by society’s standards. Even when we don’t think we define success monetarily it’s safe to say that we don’t want our children to live in poverty.
So then how should we define success? Well if God makes the standard, success would include listening and obeying his word, trusting in him, and seeking after godly wisdom.
Worldly success always comes with a price. The question is, is it worth it?
Good jobs and financial security are good aspirations; but they shouldn’t be mistaken as ones purpose in life.
Who’s determining what success means to your family?

Face of Faith: Discovering a Different Kind of Makeover by Candy Wood Lindley

In a world obsessed with perfection of the outer appearance and makeovers of every kind, Candy discovered a different kind of makeover—one that lasts—a makeover of the heart.
Candy’s life seemed to have fallen into place. Blessed with an idyllic childhood and loving parents who doted on their precocious only child with a mind of her own, she grew up with grace and charm in the Old South of the 1950s and ’60s. As a speech and drama major at the University of Alabama, vivacious, petite Candy channeled her boundless energy and passion to be “on stage.” Marriage, blessed with two darling children, followed … and then the diagnosis at age 30 that changed her life and her looks forever.
Her only chance at survival was a surgery so drastic that, according to her doctors, she would lose the greater portion of her face including the right eye and possibly the left, leaving her severely deformed. Candy awoke with a new face on the outside and a renewed commitment to her Lord on the inside.
On life’s stage, Candy chose to surrender to a different kind of makeover by the Master’s hands.
In her book, Face of Faith, Candy tells her amazing story—a true medical miracle—as she set out to discover who she was apart from her physical looks.
About the Author
Candy Wood Lindley
When doctors told Candy Wood Lindley that she had six months to live, she prayed that God would allow her to see her two young children grow up. That was 1982.
Candy was diagnosed with a baseball-sized tumor in the center of her head. Eight surgeries and several years later, she was left facially disfigured but determined to make the most of what she had. In 1987, she was one of twenty-five recipients of Clairol’s national “Take Charge Award,” given to women who have overcome obstacles and turned their lives around after the age of thirty. This was awarded to her for the production of two nationally released videos, together called Let’s Face It. One dealt with makeup techniques for the facially disfigured and the other with wig and scarf applications for hair loss patients.
In 1997, she was given the Life Inspiration Award by the American Cancer Society. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons gave Candy their “Patients of Courage Award” in 2004, and she accepted the 2005 Legacy of Courage Award from Alabama’s For the Cause.
About the Co-Author
Kathi Macias, popular speaker and prolific author, is an Angel-award–winning writer who has published twenty-two books and hundreds of articles. In 2008, she was honored at the Golden Scroll Awards as the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association member of the year.
Whether keyboarding her latest book, keynoting a conference, or riding on the back of her husband’s Harley, Kathi is a lady on a mission to communicate God’s vision. Her insightful words—filled with passion, humor, and soul nourishment—refresh audiences from all walks of life, and her Spanish devotionals, “Desde el Corazon del Padre” (with English translations), can be found on www.Crosswalk.com each Monday.
Her newest book, Beyond Me: Living a You-First Life in a Me-First World, was released in July 2008 from New Hope Publishers and was named “top pick” in the Christian Living category by Christian Retailing Magazine.

Mom's the Word
Marilynn Griffith stops by today to provide a peek into her world of motherhood and family. She's the author of eight novels, mother to seven children, wife to a deacon and proof of God’s enduring mercy. You can catch Marilynn sharing her family adventures all week on the Mom's the Word Blog Tour.
To a Thousand Generations
"Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he [is] God, the faithful God,
which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;" (Deuteronomy 7:9, KJV)
There is a lot of teaching available about generational curses, but
you rarely hear people teach on generational blessings. I always think about whoever that person was in my family line who prayed that first salvation prayer, not knowing that so many others would be blessed behind him. And blessed we have been. I was just talking to a friend
about my cousin Mike, who can put together an event on a dime (and with a dime!) and seems to know everyone on earth. Another person who knows many of my relatives commented to me lately,"Y'all are just blessed to know stuff. All of you!" I think that really is a thirst for knowledge that was imparted to all of us by my grandmother Goldie. She had what can best be explained as...a low tolerance for stupidity.
Now, here I am with a family of my own. I long to leave a legacy of faith in them. My husband and I pray for our children to out-believe us, out-give us, out-serve us and out-love us. We want them to take the next step in seeing God's glorious destiny come to pass, knowing
that Jesus might likely come in their generation. What would happen today if our children were separated from us and the Bible taken away from them? Would they know what we think they would know? I wonder.
The other thing my family has is a great business sense (I didn't quite get that so strong, I'm more of a creative type, but I get by). One of my daughters has it quite strongly and another has a great way with people and has a great mantle of grace on her. My sons range from music to prophecy to sports and back again, but some of them love business too. Before I wrote Made of Honor, my daughters and I had a seasonal soap company. They made many of the products all by themselves (lip balm, bath bombs, salts, salves, etc). Along with some other friends they sold their products at craft shows and holiday bazaars. I made the soap from scratch and they did the melt and pour type. We did candles too.
One thing I want to is to establish a business with them again. They are getting older and lately realized that in ten years, my oldest daughter will likely be married with children (or not, but still). Anyway, I want my girls to understand what I had to learn the hard way about the Proverbs 31 woman--she had skills. I also try to impart some writing skills to my kids. So far, I've got two possible future writers. We'll see what God will do. It's all for His glory anyway.
What do you want to impart to your family this year? What legacy of faith have you been given? Don't assume that your children know. Share it with them.
Father God,
I thank you for all the children You have blessed me with. Help my husband and I to impart to them a love for You and Your Word and a passion to do Your will in the earth. May each of our children change the world for You, right now at the age they are and in every place they are. Send good and godly friends who will sharpen them and lift them up when they need it into their lives and give us wisdom to guide them into your glorious destiny.
In Jesus' name,
Amen

I Am Says "You Are"

CJ Rapp
I AM says, “You Are…” Blog Tour Interview
I AM says, “You Are…” Understanding Your Identity in Christ is the first book by Bible teacher and speaker CJ Rapp. Not only does this book explore your rock solid identity in Christ, it also helps the reader identity patterns of thinking that threaten healthy self-esteem. For each daily devotional, questions have been included. These questions provide an opportunity for personal study or for sharing the journey with a small group. It’s perfect for women’s ministry groups to use as a six week study.
What inspired you to write I AM says, “You Are…” Understanding Your Identity in Christ?
One of the biggest challenges in my life has been overcoming insecurity and low self-esteem. In fact, my journey was long and difficult. My low self-esteem began during my teen years and remained into my thirties.
In my late twenties I began to follow Christ. I committed my life to Him and began to read the Bible. As I read, I discovered that His Word actually contradicted lies I had long believed about my worth and my value. His words were kind, compassionate, and full of love. The more I read the more I realized that God loved me and that he didn't think I was stupid, ugly, or worthless. Instead His Word says that I am priceless, a masterpiece, a treasure, and I am His child. He even loved me enough to send His Son to die for me. That was shocking! The girl who grew up believing that she had little worth or value was passionately loved and desired by the Creator of the universe! It was life changing for me. Through my study, acceptance of His truth, and application of God’s Word I was set free. I like to say that God replaced the trash, my negative thoughts, with the truth or the treasure of God’s Word.
The more I read the more I realized I held the keys to freedom and healing in my hands. Not just for me but for other people just like me. Three years ago God impressed on my heart the importance of sharing my journey with others. My heart’s desire in writing this devotional Bible study is to help other people find the same hope, freedom, and healing that I have found.
Who is the target audience for I AM says, “You Are…”?
Understanding your identity in Christ is important for women of all ages. This devotional is written so women in all stages of life can relate to the topic of discussion. For example, day one is titled, I AM says, “You Are Significant.” Women of all ages need to know that they are significant to God’s plan.
What are some of the topics covered?
Each day begins with this identity statement, I AM says, “You Are…” The thirty daily themes cover many aspects of our identity in Christ such as:
• I AM says, “You Are loved.”
• I AM says, “You Are beautiful.”
• I AM says, “You Are unique.”
• I AM says, “You Are forgiven.”
Do you have a website or blog for your audience to check out?
Yes! I have a blog site www.cjrapp.wordpress.com for women to interact and share their thoughts on the daily themes. Small groups and Women’s Ministries also have a tab on the blog where they can share their insights and idea’s.
I AM says, “You Are…” Understanding Your Identity in Christ provides women with a glimpse of God’s heart for them. Embracing the truths from Scripture found in this book can help women overcome the low self-esteem that studies say over 80% of American women suffer from. The quickest way to get your copy is to order from amazon.com. For more information about CJ Rapp visit her website at www.cjrapp.com. Don’t forget that this study can be used in small groups and as a church wide women’s ministry study.
